A sense of optimism prevails at wbg
Finally, things are moving forward! Despite years of stagnation in some construction and renovation projects, we haven't given up and have consistently sought solutions. As a social housing provider, we are a beacon of hope for many in the region. We are aware of this responsibility and want to fulfill our obligation.
To provide housing for as broad a segment of our population as possible. That's why we persevered, rolled up our sleeves, and ultimately found ways out of the stagnation. Below you will find the most important launch news about our projects on Sturmbühlstraße and the Bürk site:
New building: Sturmbühlstraße
In Sturmbühlstraße, where a large gap had existed since the demolition of the old buildings, we now have every reason to look to the future with confidence! Together with the Goldbeck company, we explored ways to realize the new building project despite all the economic and financial hurdles. A concept was developed jointly, which met with widespread approval from the outset. During the presentation of concrete visualizations, we succeeded in convincing the supervisory board of wbg, and the technical committee of the municipal council also unanimously approved the development plan. Our planning phase is therefore in full swing, and an initial timeline for the start of construction of our modern, multi-unit residential complex has already been established. The start of physical construction is scheduled for 2027. A mix of 106 apartments will be built on a total living area of 7.215 m².
The specific breakdown should look like this:
- 50 four-room apartments
- 37 four-room apartments
- 19 four-room apartments
Future residents can look forward to a well-designed living concept with many amenities. A residents' parking garage and elevators, for example, will ensure comfortable, barrier-free access to the apartments regardless of the weather.

Building within existing structures: Bürk area
For years, the Bürk site in the heart of Schwenningen was overshadowed by uncertainty surrounding the future of the historic building. Our original plan to expand the Clock Industry Museum and create an urban space for encounters and cultural inspiration had to be abandoned due to unforeseen circumstances. As you can imagine, we haven't let this discourage us and are currently focusing entirely on planning student housing. In close collaboration with the Office for the Preservation of Historical Monuments, we have developed solutions that meet the structural requirements of a listed building. In addition to the existing 60 apartments, 22 more student housing units will be added. Modernization work is scheduled to begin in January 2025. The focus will be on renovating the heating system, replacing the windows, and equipping all apartments with new kitchenettes. If everything goes smoothly, we will be able to complete all the work within 12–14 months. Afterward, the newly renovated and furnished apartments will become the new home for students right in the heart of our beautiful city.
